Great campsite with stunning views and excellent amenities. Many sites have their own shelter and the pit toilets were extremely well maintained.

Mesa-top developed camping area in the BLM-managed Rio Grande del Norte National Monument west of Questa, NM. Something of a travail to access, but those who push to the southern-most part of the area will find this fine campground on a mesa high above the confluence of the Rio Grande and the Red River. An all-year campground, as opposed to most of the surrounding Forest Service campgrounds, campers at La Junta can climb down and hike to the confluence of the rivers to fish or primitive camp, or stay on the top of the mesa and walk the many trails to the north and east.
This is a good campground with a short but fairly challenging hike into the Gorge where the Red River and the Rio Grande meet.
